Florida Panhandle Family Law & Divorce Lawyer

*Certified as a Family Law Mediator by the Florida Supreme Court

At the law office of Nina Chase, PA in Grayton Beach, we have over 27 years of experience. We have been handling family law and divorce matters for clients throughout the Florida Panhandle over the past three years. Please contact our office for a free one-half hour initial consultation.

We can handle all family law matters, including all aspects of your divorce and marital settlement, including child support, spousal support or alimony, and the equitable distribution of marital property.

  • Child support. Child support in Florida is determined by a statutory formula. We will help you ensure that all income of both parents is considered so that the support order complies with Florida guidelines.
  • Alimony or spousal support. Alimony is not automatically awarded in Florida. However, it may be granted based on the length of the marriage, in situations where there is a disability, or where it is unreasonable to expect that one spouse will earn the income to maintain his or her lifestyle.
  • The division of marital debts and assets. In Florida, property is distributed on an equitable (fair) basis. The court may determine that one party is entitled to more property than another, based on contributions made to the marriage. We will help you structure a property settlement that fairly considers all marital assets, including real estate, investments, retirement plans and business assets.

Family Law Mediation

Mediation is mandatory in family law disputes in most, if not all, counties. The court may require that, prior to trial, you first attempt to resolve matters through mediation. The mediation process allows the parties to have direct input regarding all parts of the divorce settlement, including child custody and visitation, equitable distribution of marital property and ongoing support, and permits parties to negotiate settlements, the scope and content of which may not be available should they choose to go to trial.

A neutral mediator will be appointed to work with the parties to come to a resolution of issues that is mutually beneficial. Mediation is confidential. In the event that the parties cannot come to a resolution on all issues, nothing that happened or was said in the mediation process may be used in subsequent proceedings. Mediation is often a less costly option than trial, and, if successful, provides the peace of mind of closure and allows the parties to go on with their lives without facing the unknown possibilities that accompany any trial.
